A Lesson in Oktoberfest Beers, the Skybar Way

Oktoberfest is in full swing and in honor of this boozy German tradition Skybar’s Beer Garden is now serving some of the best craft beers out there. As champagne drinkers, the beer language can be a bit overwhelming so we sat down with our devilishly handsome bartenders to get a quick lesson on quads, hops and IPAs to help us choose from the menu.

On the stronger end of the spectrum, we have Duvel, Houblon Chouffe, and Ommegang’s Abbey Ale. Duvel, a strong Belgian pale ale, goes down smooth with only a slight hint of bitterness. Houblon, on the other hand, is a Belgian style double IPA that is the go-to drink for anyone who seriously loves hops. New York based brewery Ommegang has the Abbey Ale, a Belgian Dubbel ale that features spicier notes in comparison to hoppiness.

The lightest beer offered is Liefman’s Fruitesse, a fruit beer that appeals to anyone who doesn’t choose a beer based on IBUs (bitterness). Also offered on the menu is La Chouffe, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale, where coriander and fruity notes blend beautifully. For those who prefer their beer with a little less bite – without sacrificing taste – there is the Ommegang Three Philosophers. The Belgian style blend tastes light on the way down, but clocks in at over 9% ABV.

No matter which you choose, all of our beers perfectly compliment a night out in the Garden. Join us in the Skybar Beer Garden until the end of October, and let us know what your favorite beer is at @ShoreClubSoBe.
